Sometimes I go to the doctor. The doctor helps keep my body healthy and strong.

The doctor’s office might look different from my home. There may be new people, sounds, and smells. It is okay to feel curious, unsure, or nervous.

When I get there, I may sit in a waiting room. I might see toys, books, or chairs. I can sit with my grown-up while we wait.
One page at a time. Read at your own pace.
This library story introduces the visit, the people there, and ways to ask for support. Use it as a starting point for a story about your child's actual appointment.
Ask the office about the arrival process and what is expected at this appointment. Add the name your child uses for the person going with them. Leave out details you have not confirmed, and update the story if the plan changes.
Use a photo of the building entrance or a familiar item your child plans to bring. Ask the office before taking photos inside, and keep other visitors out of the pictures.
For example, change “Sometimes I go to the doctor” to “On Tuesday, I am going to the doctor with Dad” if that matches the plan. Keep the words familiar and describe only what you know.
Add the words, pictures, or gestures your child uses to ask for help or a pause. Read together at their pace and leave room for questions. Avoid promises about how the appointment will feel or exactly how long it will take.
